EDIT Gave the book another star because it still has a book length plot however small and the romance is not the main focus It far exceeds other YA books in that aspect but only that aspectOKAY First things first before we get startedTricia Rayburn's 'Siren' will now be called 'Mermaid' to avoid confusionThe Sirens from Greek mythology were 2 5 bird women or just women that lived on rocky islands I don't think a name is ever specified They lured sailors to their death with their alluring voices and musicNow in other languages the word mermaid is based on the word 'siren' like the Spanish 'sirena' I do understand the confusion so I'll regrettably let the mermaid like siren bit slide I still don't like that some people just won't research TO MAKE SURE but I'll dealAlso so that I've said it somewhere I have sirens in my series in progress and I've actually gave them shark like tails as well the bird qualities so both sides of the spectrum are satisfied and no one gets butthurt over it Originality points? Maybe? Bah moving onTricia Rayburn's Mermaid The book that actually had a somewhat intriguing plot but never really worked out The plot would have worked if it actually felt like it was in the right order and not missing pieces ohhh I dunno FUCKING EVERYWHERE Does that make sense? If not don't worry it gets worse The back summary told us about Justine and her SUPER DEEP DARK SEKRETS but instead we get this adventure about finding a kid named Caleb that we really didn't know too much about except that he TOTES got it on with Justine the last two summers We're looking for this Caleb for nearly 23 of the way through Mermaid and I assure you I was skimming from the boredom We get the secrets through Mrs Sands and not from Vanessa finding stuff out other than Oh my sis wasn't going to Dartmouth after all WHYYYY?VANESSA Justine at her twenty pages of living gets enough characterization to show that without her Vanessa is a helpless little nothing because she's scared of fucking everything LIKE EVERYTHING Heights water boys the dark pretty girls and possibly breathing itself Anywho she was a dull character She had hair on her head her eyes turned out to be silver because you know after seventeen years of looking in a mirror she didn't realize that her eyes were SILVER view spoilerfrom being a plot siren hide spoiler
